This is a really nice piece of beach glass from Kauai. My dad found this one while walking the beach with my son a few years ago. It's a light blue color and fairly thick. As you can see in the last picture, this is almost 2 inches tall and an inch across. If you're a beach comber, you know how rare it is to find a piece like this! I set it with a closed back for extra strength and durability.
Due to popularity and scarcity of genuine beach glass (or sea glass), t is quite common for people to "make" beach glass by breaking a bottle, then acid etching or tumbling with grit. Some craft supply websites also sell "cultured" or "created" beach glass and try to pass it off as the "real" deal. Genuine beach glass is much harder to come by than frosted glass, and the price will reflect that. I believe in "truth in advertising," and will always tell you as much as I know about the origins of the materials used in my artwork.
